Zhengzhou, provincial capital of China's Henan province is to build a university in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), reports

According to the official website of Zhengzhou city, the new institution will be called 'CAS-UCLA (Henan) University', and will aim to develop a top-flight international reputation.

It says, the university will take advantage of the solid academic strength and resources of CAS and UCLA, and promote the sharing of teaching and research resources and the development of talents.

The university is to adopt a "2+2" model, in which students study in CAS-UCLA (Henan) university for two years, and then move to University of California, Los Angeles for the other two years. Graduates will receive a degree conferred by the two universities.

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public research university in the Westwood district of Los Angeles. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2016–2017 places UCLA 14th in the world for academics and 13th in the world for reputation.

Liu added that the launch of a jointly built university will significantly improve the quality of education in Zhengzhou.

According to the government of Zhengzhou, the city will continue working on international cooperation to build universities focusing on innovation and research and with international influence.
