Famed Chinese pianist Lang Lang raised over 2 million U.S. dollars for music education during a gala concert dinner in New York on Monday.
The Gala Concert series which is in its third year was founded by Lang. The stars international music foundation (LLIMF) hosted the Lang Lang & Friends Gala Concert Dinner in Manhattan in New York. The show also featured the super talented American vocalist Lisa Fischer.
"The Friends Gala Concert Dinner is an opportunity for us to come together and support a new generation of musicians and to honor those who have generously supported our efforts," said Lang.
The Gala was held to raise funds to support the foundation's various programs such as the Keys of Inspiration, which has the goal of educating future pianists. Lang reiterated at the gala that it is important to share music worldwide.
The foundation has already taught classical music to more than 2,500 children in five cities around the globe. 'The Keys of Inspiration' program was formed in 2013 and aims to educate, inspire and motivate the next generation of music lovers and performers.
In related news, Lang was recently named as New York City's first ever Cultural Tourism Ambassador by Mayor Bill de Blasio. The appointment comes in conjuction with the U.S.-China Tourism Year events that promote travel and tourism between the United States and China.
