A delegation from the University of Western Australia visits China at the invitation of CEI

On July 14, 2016, Mr. Iain Watt, Vice President of the University of West Australia (UWA) and Ms. Michelle Wang, the Chinese Marketing Manager of UWA lead a delegation from the university to visit education institutes in Liaoning Province in north eastern China. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Charles Sun, CEO of China Education International (CEI), and Lucy Liu of CEI’s Shenyang office. The UWA delegation visited Liaoning University (LNU) and also Shenyang Normal University (SNU). The University of Western Australia is a renowned educational institution with more than 100 years of history. In 2015, UWA was ranked at number 87 in the world ranking and currently several of the institutes disciplines and majors are ranked within the top 50 world-wide. The UWA delegation was invited to China by CEI with the aim of establishing a higher level of international cooperation.

The University of Western Australia delegation firstly visited Sheyang Normal University (SNU) where it was introduced to Mr. Tiejun Li, the Vice President of SNU. During the cordial discussions Mr. Li and Mr. Watt agreed on further collaborations with regards to the disciplines and majors that both institutions are interested in. During the meeting, Mr. Li also expressed his sincere appreciation to CEI for introducing such a highly respected and renowned partner to his university.

Later, the UWA delegation was also introduced to Ms. Wangxin, the General Secretary of the Communist Party at the International office of SNU. At the meeting, the future collaborations were discussed in detail, and they also expressed their intention to sign an agreement in order to facilitate the official launch of the project.

The delegation then met with Professor Xuping, the Vice President of Liaoning Normal University (LNU), and Mr. Lei Jiang, the Director of the International office of LNU, with whom CEI has enjoyed hugely successful collaborations over the past two decades. Some officials from the School of Econoics of LNU also attended the meeting. During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed including further collaborations on English training for both students, and teachers. Both LNU, who started international institutional collaborations early in China, and also the School of Economics of LNU, enjoy a nation-wide reputation in the country. Their faculty members are very confident about seting up further cooperation with UWA. They believe this meeting will help broaden the opportunities for students from Liaoning University.

During this visit, Mr. Iain Watt, Vice President of UWA who also happens to be an old friend of Mr. Charles Sun, spoke to the officials and teachers in fluent Chinese. Mr. Watt was originally the education counselor at the Australian Embassy in Beijing, where he enjoyed a rich experience of international collaborations. He said “We believe the visit will improve the collaborations between the UWA and the Chinese institutions”.

CEI aims to continue to build on its international education collaborations with even more renowned universities from both China and abroad.
