Humboldt State University is making Ready for Rio and the 2016 Summer Olympics!


The countdown is already well underway to the Olympic Games 2016 in Brazil, officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, and commonly known as Rio 2016. Its a time when sports fans around the world get very excited about the biggest sporting event on the planet. Every four years, athletes from around the globe come together to compete against one another in the Summer Olympics, but what do you know about the history behind the modern Olympic Games?  

Humboldt State University in California in the US is planning to hold a special Olympic event next month especially for its students that will focus on the Games past & present. The lecture is called 'Going for Gold' A history of Events in the Modern Olympic Games.

Did you know that the first modern Olympics took place in Athens, Greece in 1896? That's a fact, and there will be many other interesting Olympic facts discussed at the HSU lecture which will also include a preview of the upcoming 2016 games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. 

The focus of the discussion will be on the events in each Olympics, covering the competitions that everyone knows about and also highlighting events that were once part of the Olympics. 

The opening ceremony of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad will take place at the famed Maracanã Stadium in Rio De Janeiro on August 5, and the Games will conclude at the same stadium on August 23rd, 2016.
