University of Nottingham China campus gets big award

2017-02-03

The University of Nottingham receives an award for its innovative joint venture in China.

Specialist publication Labmate reported that the prestigious 'British Business Award' has been given to Nottingham University at a recent ceremony in Shanghai.

Nottingham University has had a campus in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in China since 2004, although it did not officially open until 2006. Since then the facility, which is a joint venture with China's Wanli Education Group, has gone from strength to strength. Initially welcoming hundreds of students, it now has over 6,000 students enrolled in a diverse range of courses.

In 2011, a science and engineering building was opened on the site, that was joined by a new arts centre in 2016.

The award is in recognition of the outstanding cooperation between the British and Chinese partners of the university.

At the end of last year, Sino.uk reported on the growing efforts between educational establishments in China and the UK to work together and to pool resources. At that time, an agreement was signed between the Russell Group, which is an association of British universities including Cambridge and Oxford, and Group-China 9, which represents prestigious establishments in China including Nanjing, Peking and Shanghai Jiao Tong university.

The agreement called for the strengthening of current ties, as well as the sharing of ideas, information and learning between the groups.
