A large delegation from the Ajou University in Seoul, Korea visits the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT)
On January 13th, 2017 a large delegation from South Korea's Ajou University visited the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). The delegation was led by dean's Li Xiangde and Cao Zhonglie, who brought over a hundred students and teachers from the Ajou School of Information Engineering and the School of Technology to attend a lecture at BIT.
The delegation attended a lecture which focused on 'Chinese high-tech developement and Entrepreneurship' which was given by BIT professor Xue Qing from the School of Mechanical Engineering .
BIT's vice deputy of the International Students Office, Xie Fei warmly welcomed the group on behalf of the univerisity and he hoped this activity would help promote the communication and cooperation between the two universities. Teacher Zheng Hailan introduced the facilities and programs on offer at BIT including information about BIT's high level international projects and Chinese system scholarships. Further information was given about current cooperation between BIT and other South Korean universities.
The two deans which lead the Ajou University delegation said they really appreciated the warm reception from the BIT faculty, and they felt that the visit would encourage their students to cherish this opportunity to understand the development of Chinese technology, the economy and education. They also said that they would like to communicate further with BIT and cooperate in more areas in the future.
After the lecture the Korean delegation visited the BIT campus, they also met some of the universities teachers, and other South Korean students who currently study at BIT. Many students in the delegation said they hoped to have the opportunity to study at BIT in the future.
Last year, the president of Ajou University visited the BIT and signed the MOU. Since then, the two universities have carried out substantive cooperation in the short term study for students, as well as the communication and exchange of teachers. 140 students and teachers from Ajou University have already participated in short-term projects at BIT.
Ajou University was established in 1973, and consists of 11 schools (school of engineering, information and communication, natural science, management, humanities and Social Sciences, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, International school, school of basic education). It is a comprehensive university located in Gyeonggi Do, near Seoul. There are 1700 professors and 14300 students including 10000 undergraduates and 4300 graduates in the university. It reached NO.103 in the QS Asian University Rankings in 2013 (BIT reached No.88). In the comprehensive top 20 university rankings of South Korea, Ajou is rated at NO.3.
