Idaho University Mens Basketball Team Competes in China
Idaho University men’s basketball team known as the Vandals was in Suzhou in eastern China earlier this month to compete in the Atlas Challenge. A major tournament which featured seven national teams and the Vandals. While the team was here they played against teams from Lithuania, Macedonia, Japan and also the Chinese national team.
Away from the games, the Vandals took time to visit a number of popular tourist sites including the Classical Gardens of Suzhou. The gardens are recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a World Heritage Site. The gardens, 69 in total, were built between the 11th and 19th centuries.
The Vandals also toured a local silk factory where they learned how the silk was made and produced. The team also got an opportunity to practice their calligraphy skills, learning to write their names in the ancient Chinese art.
